Identity Design & Environmental Design

Solar Home is an Australian business providing sustainable, environmentally-friendly products, such as solar power systems and rain water tanks, helping homes and businesses reduce their impact on the environment. Solar Home asked Lovehate Design to create a visual identity for their company that appeared approachable and friendly to the Australian consumer, whilst communicating the products and services they offered, as well as their eco-friendly mission statement.

Solar Home was concerned that as there were a large number of short-lived businesses jumping on the ‘environmentally-friendly’ band wagon, it was important that their branding helped them stand out as friendly and reliable, reinforcing the fact that they were a business that was here to stay.

In creating the Solar Home ‘house and sun’ logo, we explored many alternative designs, but settled on the combination of gently old-fashioned and informal lowercase lettering with a stylised design. This friendly, uncomplicated visual identity communicates Solar Home’s accessibility and professionalism, whilst being a ‘sweet’ and therefore memorable design to help their company stand out from the rapidly expanding crowd of Australian solar providers.

This visual identity has been applied to their business cards, letterhead, quotation forms, vinyl banners, pull-up banners, corflute signs and company utes. To support their eco-friendly stance, we arranged printing of all peripherals for Solar Home on 'Nordsett', a paper made from elemental chlorine-free pulp sourced from sustainable forests.

In subsequent applications of the visual identity, the shape of the house transformed into a pointer, drawing attention to the Solar Home address and services offered.
